The Academic Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam announces herewith the
22nd Amsterdam International Medical Summer School.

STILL PLACES AVAILABLE FOR THE COURSE:
Title: “Molecular Pathways in Cancer
initiation, maintenance and therapy”
Period: July 3 – 29, 2011.

Cancer is an increasing health problem and in most countries in the western world the number one killer. Treatment of cancer patients is becoming more and more personalized, but this also gives an increasing burden on health systems worldwide. Understanding the features of cancers that determine initiation, progression and treatment response are therefore more and more needed to not only cure cancer patients, but also to keep the health system affordable.
During this course you will gain insight in the fundamental, translational and clinical aspects of cancer. Profiling of cancers to understand their genetic make-up, biological analysis to understand their signal wiring and therapy resistance, animal models to analyse in vivo aspects and therapy efficacy and clinical trials will all be discussed during this course in both lectures and practical research.

Participants profile: Advanced students in medicine, biology, oncology and health sciences with knowledge of biomedical and clinical sciences, as well as recent graduates. Experience in laboratory research is an advantage, not a requirement.
A selection on basis of your curriculum vitae and a written motivation is part of the application procedure.
