Academic Program Director - Early Childhood Education Program

Reporting to: Chief Academic Officer

Role Summary:The Program Director is responsible for leading the development and delivery of the early childhood degree program.  This includes program planning, program delivery, program administration, program development, review, revision and accreditation, student support and stakeholder relations and community collaboration. Also responsibility includes oversight of Learning in JU Child Development Centre.

The Program Director works closely with the Dean, and the Excellence and Compliance Office in managing the development of the curriculum for the course(s), assuring course and unit quality according to the JU Academic Standards and Assessment Framework, and ensuring compliance with JU policies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction for the academic program that include: development and review of program objectives, course syllabus and overall academic planning of the program.
  • Conduct new program feasibility studies.
  • Supervise education degree program delivery.
  • Oversight and supervision of the Child Development Centre education programs and the Child Day care services.
  • Ensure development and maintenance of a high quality educational environment for students.
  • Responsible for business program administration and delivery in a fashion that is consistent with the university’s mission and strategy, and in particular the JU Academic Standards and Assessment Framework for learning and teaching.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective management of the program’s resources in accordance with the University’s applicable policies and procedures.
  • Exercise responsibility for human resources management within the academic program.  This involves taking either direct or shared responsibility in faculty recruitment, supervision, performance and development.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in academic leadership role including 8 years in higher education teaching.
  • Must hold a Doctorate in Early Childhood related academic discipline.
  • Experience in curriculum development and academic program assessment & reviews.
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods, including the instructional use of e-learning platforms, smart boards, etc.
  • Strong planning and scheduling skills.
  • Working knowledge of financial planning and budgeting.
  • Strong team leadership, and ability to lead projects focused on academic excellence, faculty development and student success.
  • English language proficiency (7 on the IELTS or the equivalent of 607 on the TOEFL)

 

The position demands excellent oral and written communication skills; effective management and organizational skills; strong experience with and knowledge of curriculum development; Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others and experience with academic program assessment and effectivenes
