Temperatures warmed nicely again on Monday making for another rather remarkable January day. Des Moines topped out at 56°F, which was the third day this January with a temperature of at least 50°F. The featured chart looks into the number of hours (based on hourly air temperature reports) each January that Des Moines was at least 50°F. The 2026 total so far is still fewer than what was observed during 2025! The top panel shows the number of such hours each year and there have been plenty of years, including most recently during 2021, without any such warm temperatures. The forecast for Tuesday has slightly cooler temperatures, but still well above average for this time of year!
