With October practically in the books, it is a good time to check in on how temperatures compared for the month. The featured chart presents the distribution of average October temperature among the long term climate states in Iowa. The green solid line represents the period of record average and the dashed line is a normal distribution fit to the data. The shaded bars and blue lines represent the 2025 observations. The distribution this year falls about one standard deviation above the climatology value. The first half of the month was quite warm and even record warm for a number of locations, while the second half was much more seasonable and even sometimes a bit chilly. November looks to start off on the warm side of average.
