The featured chart presents the daily percentage of NWS CLImate reporting sites that were either above or below average since 1 November 2026. There is no spatial weighting done, so this chart is biased toward the eastern US as an disproportionate number of sites reside there. The chart is informative for the wave pattern exhibited as cold and warm air masses transverse the US. The warmth from mid December till mid January can be seen with the limited number of stations below average for this period. The strong outbreaks of cold weather can be identified as well starting after Thanksgiving and also for the last half of January.
