Hot Pink and Black Friday

One of the interesting things about the National Weather Service website is the sometimes colorful map that adorns the homepage. This map uses an extensive color scheme to represent around 100 different alert types. The color assigned for a Winter Storm Warning is "hot pink", so we arrive at the title of this daily feature with much of Iowa shown in hot pink for this Black Friday. Snow will get started later today and not clear the state until Sunday morning. While the snowfall totals will add up to some big numbers for some locations, the long duration of the event will hopefully help snow plows keep up. It is certainly not an ideal situation for many folks needing to travel home from Thanksgiving trips and the increased vehicle traffic will work against the snow plows working hard to keep the roads in decent shape.
