Daily Sub 0°F Frequencies
Date: 30 Jan 05:30 AM
Votes: Good: 16   Bad: 0 Abstain: 0

The last two days of January look to continue the recent few weeks with plenty of chilly temperatures as daily lows are expected to be below 0°F for Ames. The featured chart looks into the daily frequency of having such a cold low temperature. January is certainly the favored time with the largest frequencies coming during the last week of the month and into the first few days of February. Those of you that are already sick of the very cold weather can find some hope within this chart as frequencies steadily decrease during February and become increasingly rare during March. A driver for this change is the ever lengthening daylight time and decreased persistence of snow cover along with warming soil temperatures.
