August Precip Totals
Date: 27 Aug 05:30 AM
Votes: Good: 6   Bad: 0 Abstain: 0

While there are a few chances of precipitation over the coming days to close out August, the areal averaged statewide total is very likely to come in below average as shown by the featured chart. The chart presents the IEM estimated August precipitation totals for Iowa. A trailing 30 year average is plotted along with period of record and a thirty year average. Six out of the previous seven years have been below long term average with 2020 and now this year coming in significantly below average. While the statewide number is below average for August, a number of locations in the state are well above their respective averages from the numerous heavy rainfall events to start off the month.
