Wednesday was finally a day that felt like summer with high temperatures soaring into the 90s along with dew points into the 60s. For Des Moines, it was the first day this year with a high temperature of at least 90°F. The featured chart presents some statistics on this feat for Des Moines. The top panel compares the first date against the total number of such days for a given year. The bottom panel shows the cumulative distribution function. So 11 June is just a handful of days behind the simple average of 6 June. The summer like temperatures also helped to fire some afternoon thunderstorms over northern Iowa, which have been lacking of late as well. The summer weather looks to stick around into next week at least.
