Winter LSR Counts

The National Weather Service issues Local Storm Reports (LSR) when their own observation equipment, partners, or the general public reports phenomena useful for the analysis and impact of ongoing environmental situations. One such situation is the relay of snowfall, sleet, and freezing rain reports. The featured chart presents the number of such LSRs issued by month since late 2005 (the beginning of the archive). The seasonality of these reports is certainly obvious and the anomalous early May 2013 snowfall event sticks out! The IEM website archives the raw LSR Text and processed reports for download. There is also a recently rewritten LSR app offering an interactive map of the reports.
