Temperatures last week were a bit of a roller coaster with much of Iowa struggle to warm above freezing on Sunday to record high temperatures by the end of the week. The featured chart presents the daily high temperature departures for Ames. The side panels show the top 10 largest departures for the year. Monday shows up in the top ten coolest and then Saturday for the top ten warmest! These types of swings are more common during the cold season as the lack of humidity and strength of contrasting air masses allow for larger differences within shorter periods of time. Temperatures this week don't look to be as extreme and we will at least see some precipitation chances with a number of passing systems.
