Yesterday's daily feature noted how afternoon high temperatures on Tuesday were cooler over areas with deeper snow cover. The same situation happened on Wednesday and today's featured chart takes a more direct comparison between the two. The chart compares high temperatures on Wednesday from the airport weather stations (ASOS) with a grid analyses of snow depth valid at each observation point during the morning hours. The relationship shown is quite clear with locations having deeper snow struggling to reach 40°F while other locations with less snow were able to warm well into the 40s and even low 50s. This same situation will repeat over the coming days as the snow field continues shrink each day.
