Non-Seasonable Time

A good aspect of late winter / early spring season snowfalls is that the ever increase solar incidence angle and lengthening daytime time will both help to naturally clear roads of snow and ice more quickly than earlier in the season. With a considerable chunk of the worst of winter road driving conditions now behind us, the featured map presents the frequency of an Iowa DOT reported road segment being in a non-seasonable state since the start of last November. The map shows considerable variability over Iowa with values ranging from less than 2% to 12% and higher. Such has been the case with snowfall totals as well with some locations in Iowa seeing much less snow than others.
