Two Way Radio-UHF Vs. VHF

I am going to purchase a set of two way radios and would appreciate some input
on which frequency band is an all around better band as far as range.

I know UHF is better for going thru steel reinforced concrete in buildings but
is it just as good as VHF at going over open terrain. ???

Does one use more power, as in will one band use more battery juice quicker??

Which has better characteristics for going over or around hills and mountains
or a subdivision of houses ???

And I read an article that said that a one watt radio will transmit approx. 2
miles but a 2 watt will only go 2 1/4 mile ??? So is it worth paying the extra
for a two watt???

Which band has less interference???
