Hello 2011 competitors!

If you are no longer involved in your team from last year, please forward this email to the appropriate people.

My name is Jack Pritz and I am one of the JSDC Co-Directors for this year.  You may have noticed that our website is down.  Apparently our parent committee had some sort of security issue and now we have to wait while they work things out.  In the meantime, we wanted to get out information about this year's game so that you can have as much time as you need to prepare.  Attached you will find a preliminary copy of the rules and a sketch of the course.  Following is a rough description:

Outlined areas indicate a raised portion of the course.  This area will be accessable by ramps.  The triangles indicate ramps (triangles with stripes indicate ramps with rollers on them).  The pointed end of the triangle indicates the bottom of the ramp.  The grey U shapes are cannons.  The T shaped things are the chair spinning actions.  The arrows indicate that the one raised portion will be like a tunnel that will be easy to drive under.  The bulls-eye in the center is the turntable that will be used for the king-of-the-hill portion of the game.  The blue dots near the turntable indicate where ping-pong balls will be located.  The grey shaded squares are teeter totters that will have pneumatics in them.  Pressing a button somewhere on the course (TBD) will switch the teeter-totter from one position to the other, or back again.  In the first position the teeter totter acts as a bridge across the two raised portions.  In the second position it will act as a ramp up to the third level of the course (not pictured - details coming soon).  This third level will have balls that are worth more points.  Near the scoring bin there are two trap doors.  These will contain frisbees.

We invite you to take part in the 25th year of the competition.  The first checkpoint for teams interested in entering the competition will be in late January.  More information will be available on how to do that once the website is up, but it basicly consists of a $100 deposit and a list of team members.  Since you all participated last year I believe you know most of the details, but I am always available to answer your questions.

We also have a new web domain.  Keep checking jsdc.ec.illinois.edu - it will be up soon.  Right now the timetable is Monday, but we are relying on other people to fix their issues so it may be later than that.

I look forward to a terrific competition in March.  We'll bring an awesome course, you bring the awesome robots, and we'll all have one big awesome time :-)
