Dear Zuhaina,

Thank you for submitting a 2019 IEEE PES outstanding large chapter award application for the Malaysia Chapter.

You and your leadership teams clearly put significant time and effort into the success of your chapters through the many events and activities you provide your members.  Unfortunately though, your chapter was not the winner this year.  The co-winning Large Chapters are North New Jersey and Bangalore, and the winning Small Chapter is Thailand.  A general announcement email to all chapter chairs will be coming out soon.

However you did receive enough points to be a runner up.  As eligible runner up, your chapter will receive $250 and a recognition certificate.

If you would like to get specific feedback on your submission, please contact me and I will share it.  At a high level, some chapters just did not have a comparable number of activities to the winners.  Other runners-up are very close to the top every year and need only small improvements to increase their chances.  I encourage you to reach out to me via email as I can give you suggestions on what will help you next time, as I hope you will submit again for 2020.

Thank you again for taking the time and effort to prepare your reports and please let me know if you have any questions.

With regards,

Paul Pabst, P.E., PMP

IEEE PES – Awards & Resources Committee Chair

Zuhaina,

The Runner Up is still a high honor, but I also appreciate the determination to be the best.  Your chapter had a great year and we appreciate all of the value you are providing for your members.  See page 7 of the attached for the scoring guidelines we use

This year’s Large Chapter Outstanding Chapter Award was the closest scoring I have ever seen.  Your chapter and the two co-winners were all very strong candidates and all had scores that were very, very close.  4th place was a sizeable distance from the top three.

The only minor improvement I could advise would be a little bit more content aimed at affinity groups and PES conferences.  Your chapter did have good content, it’s just that the winning chapters had a bit more.  But again, the differences were very small.  It would be great to see the Malaysia chapter to continue this level of activity year in and year out.

I hope this helps and encourage you to continue to be a great chapter and apply next year.  Thank you,

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your email.

As stated in your email, I am keen to get specific feedback on our submission so that we can improve in the future.

For your information, PES Malaysia has submitted nomination for PES Outstanding Chapter Award every year and we have been runner up for 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Although as a large chapter, we have not the win the outstanding chapter award yet but this has not dampen our spirits in organising events and activities for our members. We hope we could increase our chances next year with your suggestions and feedback.

Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Regards,
