Safety and Reliability in Design of Electric Vehicles
Dr. Chitra Thyagarajan
Principal Consultant, Embedded System Practice,
Integrated Engineering Solutions,
MahindraSatyam
Date : Friday, 9th March 2012
Venue : College of Engineering, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kukatpally, Hyderabad
Time : 02: 00 – 05:00 PM
Profile of the Speaker:
Dr. Chitra Thyagarajan carries more than 35 years of technical experience of research, development and is very passionate towards the safety and reliability Analysis. During her 28 years of term DRDO, she worked extensively on weapon system evaluation problems and Reliability/safety analysis for several systems indigenously designed and developed by DRDO for the three major Services (Army, Navy and Air Force). Her area of specialization includes mathematical modelling of weapon system evaluation problems, combat simulation and safety & reliability analyses. At MahindraSatyam, Dr. Chitra is leading the Safety and Reliability Practice and is responsible for the delivery and management of the safety case projects and Reliability Analysis projects. She is the solution architect in the safety analysis for the Automotive, Aerospace, Medical, Energy & Utilities industries. With the increasing use of embedded electronics and software in the present systems, there are mounting challenges in establishing safe usage of products and meeting customer expectations in the product design.
Dr. Chitra received Professional Excellence Award at MahindraSatyam for the year 2010 and also Best Ambassador award in Integrated Engineering Services for the year 2011-‘12. She has also co-authored a book on Reliability and Six Sigma published by Springer Verlag in 2006. Dr. Chitra gained her Doctoral Degree from IISc Bangalore.
Abstract of the Talk:
Reliability engineering and System safety plays a critical role in System design. With the increased use of embedded electronics and software in the automotive systems, there are mounting challenges in establishing safe usage of any system and meeting customer expectations in any product design. Both Reliability and Safety have to be designed in right from the inception of the design of any product.
In order to do this there are several analysis tools which guides the design activity to systematically build the safety and reliability. The talk covers the need for the safety and reliability in design and the systematic approach using various tools like voice of customer, preliminary hazard analysis, derivation of safety requirements, achieving the reliability goal, use of standards, use of analysis like Fault tree analysis, Failure mode effect Analysis etc.
