Mr. B S Gupta, BE (Hons) Electrical, BITS Pilani (1971), FIE & Chartered Engineer, born in 1950 at Mathura(UP), is presently Advisor (Renewable Energy), Radhasoami Satsang Sabha,Dayalbagh, Agra. He was General Manager, Traction Controls, BHEL Electronics Division, Bangalore in 2007 and GM BHEL R&D, Secunderabad from 2007 to 2010.He has held no. of responsible positions while in Electronics Division and participated in indigenization programmes of technologies from reputed multinational collaborators for DC drives , Siemens ,Germany/ Frequency Converters for Pumped Storage Scheme ,BBC ,Baden , Switzerland/ VVVF AC Drives, GE, Salem, USA,/ AC Traction Controls for 3ph AC EMU, Traxis and Holec ,Netherland/3 ph Locos, ABB. Sweden (now Bombardier)through Indian Railways. All these products/systems have been stabilized by his team giving a sizeable turn over to BHEL, Electronics Division. He led Programmable Controls , Power Plant Simulation , Controls and Instrumentation groups at BHEL, R&D.
He is responsible for development of many products from scratch ,the most noticeable have been medium frequency Induction Heating Machines being used for heat treatment of X20/P91 pipes during welding , in all BHEL Thermal Power Plants and Very High Current Thyristor Converters for Aluminium Smelters and Caustic Soda Plants.
He was on number of committees as member, set up by DOE (now MIT )for development of 3ph, Solar water pumping system by ERDC Trivandrum and Reluctance Motor Drive for Electric Car by Eddy Current Controls, Chalkudy. He represented BHEL as Chairman and Power Electronics committee ETD31 set up by BIS in the area of Power Electronics. He has written and published no. of technical papers. The paper titled `1 Ph Front End Converter for Traction Drive‘ co authored with Prof V T Rangnathan of IISC, Bangalore won certificate of merit award from Railway Board in the Institution of Engineers meet, DEC 2007.
