HI
The SD IEEE chapter just started a "cyber security (CS) SIG" (special interest group) for the SD region
We propose that the CS-SIG should / might take a couple of related / leveraged technical perspectives...
(1) Supporting the major "IT" societies, but align well within Comms, computers and reliability.
(2) Support the start up of the new "SD Job / network Club" / PACE professional education / the local consultants networks
(3) Harmonize with the various local security's groups / efforts in SD, specifically ISSA, ICS(2) and SOeC to start.. then possibly others like OWASP, ISACA, etc - as those security groups may want to engage as well
We will use this Google groups to start the collaboration
"SD IEEE Cyber Security SIG
plus we'll also get a space / folder on the SDIEEE chapter web site I would presume.
Let me know your thoughts, suggestions, druthers, etc...
Though this effort is focused on the SD IEEE chapter, we intend to ensure whatever we do / propose is consistent nationwide - as “cyber is as cyber does"...
We’ll bea true collaborative group... as cyber is a TEAM sport - supporting other societies and groups with actual needs, gaps, etc... aka "fixing stuff" as engineer types like to DO..
MY current interests are in cyber insurance, SA/SCM/SIEM, mobile security and big data analytics for cyber...
Note - I belong to several San Diego groups (ISSA, AFCEA/NDIA, INCOSE, SOeC, TSN, etc) and routinely brief "What REALLY matters in cyber security – 2013" (see link below, you can Google it, should be the first link..;-))
Where I stress doing the cyber basics / hygiene complemented with SCM... I try to tell the whole cyber saga in under 30 or slides.... with some decent points / perspectives in back-up slides too... very BUSY, jam packed... I thin it out and tailor for the audience..
yet cyber seems like some to be a "wicked problem." To me, I try to de-complexify it, as part of my "Maslow triangle of security" along with doing the cyber basics... hygiene / 'CM' - effective access control - reducing complexity (enforce APL/PPLs) - all integrated by SCM- Security Content Monitoring
