A topic for a coming OPCOM meeting. Can we start a Google group list
for 'IEEE Boise friends'? Then see what people in Boise would benefit
from being on that list? I think everyone could occasionally suggest a
name. Below is my communication with the VP of Research at BSU that lead
to this idea. I can also think of the heads of the BSU Tech Park,
perhaps some people in the Idaho department of commerce, etc. Also the
heads of the other professional societies in town (ISPE, ASME, ASCE,
SWE, ...). Maybe some high-ups in some local technical firms, or venture
capitalists. Each would have to be specifically asked in an individual
personalized e-mail if they wanted to be included, but I bet most would
answer yes, and if they said no, we don't want them anyway. We would
want to restrict it to non-engineers so we didn't cause people to opt
out of real membership because they found they still got access through
this list but for free. For the management & press types I think this
would be good. Then whenever an email is sent to the general Boise IEEE
membership list, we could send one more to this list. Newsletters to
these folk would be sent only electronically. I think it might do a lot
to tie the section in with the local business community.
What do you think?

Hi Elisa -
Thanks so much for the note!! Unfortunately, I won't be able to make
the 2/18 IEEE event. However, I would welcome an opportunity to be
involved in IEEE int he future. I assume there is a memberhsip process.
Would the local organization consider a non-engineer like me??
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
Perhaps this would be of interest to you from the standpoint of meeting
local engineers and businessmen. BSU has a good involvement with the
local IEEE section but it is heavily dominated by non-university folk.
