Stuff You Don't Learn in Engineering School
Presenter: Carl Selinger
Date: Thursday, 14 April 2011
Time: 2:00 - 3:00 PM EST
Overview
Engineers today start their careers with excellent technical skills and subject-matter expertise. However, they are often less able to cope with the people, procedures and pressures of the real world. This one-hour webinar discusses the 12 most important soft skills engineers need to be more effective in work and in life. Using straight talk and down-to-earth examples, skills covered include: decision-making, setting priorities and managing time, running meetings, working in teams, better understanding of yourself and others (like co-workers, clients and your manager!), leadership skills, negotiating, getting feedback, dealing with stress and having fun, and, of course, improving speaking, writing and listening.

Discounts Offered To IEEE Members For Online Courses
|
The IEEE eLearning Library, recently launched for organizational subscriptions, now also provides technical professionals and students with access to individual, fee-based short courses and conference workshops. Members of IEEE receive a further benefit of a members-only discount.
The IEEE eLearning Library is composed of over 200 short, online courses in many of today’s core and emerging technologies from smart grid and biometrics to telecommunications and green engineering. Each course was developed and peer-reviewed by industry experts and awards continuing education units (CEU) or professional development hours (PDH) upon successful completion. Those who enroll for a course can choose between introductory, intermediate and advanced levels of learning. The IEEE Learning Management System can keep track of courses and progress. Courses range from one to three hours in length and include notes, a glossary of terms and a post-test. Once each course is complete, members are able to print their continuing education certificates.
“The IEEE eLearning Library is designed to provide professionals with interactive tutorials featuring new and emerging technologies,” said Steve Welch, Director of Continuing Education at IEEE. “Our extensive peer-review process assures IEEE members that each tutorial meets the high IEEE standards for quality and accuracy.” View course catalog.

Phase-Locking in High-Performance Systems: From Devices to Architectures
Author(s): Razavi, B.
Publication Date: 2003
Publisher: Wiley-IEEE Press
Abstract: Comprehensive coverage of recent developments in phase-locked loop technology.
The rapid growth of high-speed semiconductor and communication technologies has helped make phase-locked loops (PLLs) an essential part of memories, microprocessors, radio-frequency (RF) transceivers, broadband data communication systems, and other burgeoning fields. Complementing his 1996 Monolithic Phase-Locked Loops and Clock Recovery Circuits (Wiley-IEEE Press), Behzad Razavi now has collected the most important recent writing on PLL into a comprehensive, self-contained look at PLL devices, circuits, and architectures.
In tandem with its companion volume, Phase-Locking in High-Performance Systems: From Devices to Architectures is a superb reference for anyone working on, or seeking to better understand, this rapidly developing and increasingly central technology.
