warming just because much of the country has experienced a relatively
wet and cool summer.

2.       Asia 'Must Act Now' to Cut Risk from Natural Disasters: ADB

14 Mar 2012

The ADB said Asian countries would require US$40 billion a year over
the next four decades to cope with climate change, but the world came
up with just $4.4 billion during 2009-2010, or one-tenth of the amount
needed, said Bindu Lohani, ADB's vice-president for knowledge
management and sustainable development.

3.       $40 bn Needed Yearly in Asia to Help Climate

09 Mar 2012

Countries in the Asia Pacific will require an investment of about
US$40 billion (Bt1.226 trillion) annually till 2050 - a period of
nearly four decades - to neutralise the impacts of climate change. And
that is many times the amount of available funds, the Asian
Development Bank (ADB) has said.

4.       Records Fall Across Country as Temperatures Soar

13 Mar 2012

The weird winter of 2011-12 has given way to a truly odd March weather
pattern, with a big dip, or "trough", in the jet stream out west, and
a large ridge of high pressure in the East which is allowing warm air
to flow from the South all the way up into Canada. Yesterday alone,
117 record daily high temperatures were set, along with 74 records for
warm overnight low temperatures. This compares to just four daily cold
high temperatures and two cold overnight low records.

that a radical new approach to managing this essential resource is
needed to be able to sustain future consumption levels.

7.       Ozone Layer Scientist Who 'Saved The world' Dies

12 Mar 2012

F Sherwood Rowland, the Nobel prize-winning chemist who sounded the
alarm on the thinning of the Earth's ozone layer, has died at 84.The
Nobel prize was awarded more than two decades after Rowland and
post-doctoral student Mario Molina calculated that if human use of
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) – a propellant in aerosol sprays,
deodorants and other household products – continued at an unchanged
rate, the ozone layer protecting it from excessive ultraviolet
radiation would be depleted after several decades.

27 Apr 2012, UNU-IAS in Yokohama

This presentation will examine the prospects of environmental
governance with reference to its spatial dimension. The presentation

complex face of rurality in India, multilevel governance systems can
be attempted that seek to reconcile local action with national and
global priorities. The presentation seeks to propose a workable system
of environmental governance for India that integrates National
Environmental Policies with local priorities and the goals embedded in
Multilateral Environmental Agreements.

Environment Professionals’ Group [EPG]: Water, Climate Change and
Biodiversity Information Network <http://bit.ly/EnvTalk> was
established by Mr. Tek Jung Mahat
<http://realisingchange.blogspot.com/> in Nov. 2005 as a voluntary
service function, to promote networking and knowledge exchange among
concerned professionals at global, regional and local level. Since
then, it has developed an alliance of over 635 environment
professionals (individuals and institutions) from over 30 countries in
Asia, Europe, Australia, Latin and North America. Group’s popularity
and supporting activities eventually led to birth of ClimateHimalaya
<www.climatehimalaya.org.np/>, an independent 'Himalaya regional
initiative' on 5 June 2007.
