Dear team,

I am writing to ask for clarification on some aspects of the software's calculations and outputs. I would appreciate team help with these:

Steam Cycle Heat Rate Calculation:
How exactly is the steam cycle heat rate calculated for the base plant performance in the software? I'm particularly interested in the parameters or equations used when the MEA-based post-combustion capture is added to the plant.

Output results in Mass In/Out:
When looking at the results in the 'Get Results' tab, the values are shown in kg/kWh. Does the kWh in this case refer to the gross power output or the net output?

Thank you

Outputs shown in kg/kWh refer to the net output.

The steam cycle heat rate is the value (based on boiler type) listed in "Table 7: Updated Base Plant Parameters" on page 37 of the amine system technical documentation ("IECM Technical Documentation: Amine-based Post-Combustion CO2 Capture", available in the Publications section of our website, iecm-online.com). When an amine system is used without an auxiliary boiler, this value is divided by (Gross_Electrical_Output / (Gross_Electrical_Output + Sorbent_Regeneration_Energy)) to account for the additional steam required for sorbent regeneration. If you're using an air cooled condenser or a hybrid cooling system, an additional adjustment would be applied. Additional details which may be of interest to you can be found in the document referenced above, starting on page 41 (section 5.2.2 Model Adjustments...)
