DC and beyond Interfaith Encounter Group- August 24th, 2025
This encounter’s topic was Freedom of Speech: What Guidance Does Your Spiritual Practice Provide You on the Human Right to Articulate Your Opinions and Ideas?
From a Jewish perspective, Rabbi Bruce starts the conversation with a reference to the article, Types of Speech, in My Jewish Learning online. https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/types-of-speech/
Included are examples of types of speech to be avoided. For example, slander, evil speech, fraud and rebuke. In Judaism, when one realizes wronging someone with any of these kinds of speech, the Amidah prayer is a recognition of regret and a quest for repentance. The Amidah prayer (private devotion) concludes with a meditation that says, "guard your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies”.
Hakan adds that the Koran teaches a balance when it comes to speech. The Prophet Moses was guided to speak to Pharaoh with “gentle words”. He adds our speech can be firm but needs to be respectful.
Our conversation includes contributions from all our participants. Raymond laments the political deception from the media. He implores us to be honest, to be kind. He adds that the barrier to truth is prejudice and bias. Judi L is fearful of the Supreme Court who now gives her evidence of bias. Chris comments that communication today comes with tricky minefields. His guiding principle is to speak the truth with love. Kelly reminds us that Jesus speaks to us from different levels. He spoke in parables. His stories were meant to illustrate truths as a moral and spiritual lesson.
Judi B mentions the upcoming Unity Walk sponsored by the Interfaith Council of Metropolitan Washington and invites others to join in.

כלולות דוגמאות לסוגי דיבור שיש להימנע מהם. לדוגמה, לשון הרע, דיבור גס, הונאה ונזיפה. ביהדות, כאשר אדם מבין שפגע במישהו באחד מסוגי הדיבור הללו, תפילת עמידה היא הכרה בחרטה וחיפוש אחר תשובה. תפילת עמידה (תפילה פרטית) מסתיימת במדיטציה שאומרת: "נצור לשוני מרע, ושפתי מדבר מרמה".
הקאן מוסיף כי הקוראן מלמד איזון בכל הנוגע לדיבור. הנביא משה הונחה לדבר אל פרעה ב"דברים עדינים". הוא מוסיף כי הדיבור שלנו יכול להיות תקיף אך צריך להיות מכבד.
השיחה שלנו כוללת תרומות מכל המשתתפים שלנו. ריימונד מקונן על ההונאה הפוליטית מצד התקשורת. הוא מבקש ממנו להיות כנים, להיות אדיבים. הוא מוסיף שהמחסום לאמת הוא דעות קדומות והטיה. ג'ודי ל. חוששת מבית המשפט העליון שכעת נותן לה עדות על הטיה. כריס מעיר שהתקשורת כיום מגיעה עם שדות מוקשים מסובכים. העיקרון המנחה אותו הוא לדבר את האמת באהבה. קלי מזכירה לנו שישוע מדבר אלינו מרמות שונות. הוא דיבר במשלים. סיפוריו נועדו להמחיש אמיתות כשיעור מוסרי ורוחני.
ג'ודי ב. מזכירה את צעדת האחדות הקרובה בחסות המועצה הבין-דתית של מטרופולין וושינגטון ומזמינה אחרים להצטרף.

مجموعة لقاء الحوار بين الديانات واشنطن العاصمة وما بعدها- 24 آب 2025
كان موضوع هذا اللقاء هو:
حرية التعبير: ما التوجيه الذي تمنحك إياه ممارستك الروحية فيما يخص حق الإنسان في التعبير عن آرائه وأفكاره؟
من المنظور اليهودي، افتتح الحاخام بروس النقاش بالإشارة إلى مقال بعنوان "أنواع الكلام" المنشور في موقع ماي جويش ليرنيج، اضغط الرابط . ويتناول المقال أمثلة على أنواع الكلام التي ينبغي تجنّبها، مثل: الافتراء، والكلام الجارح، والخداع، والتوبيخ الجارح.
ففي اليهودية، عندما يدرك الإنسان أنه أخطأ في حقّ شخص ما بأي من هذه الأنواع من الكلام، فإن صلاة "العَمِيداه" بحيث تكون اعترافًا بالندم وسعيًا نحو التوبة. وتختتم هذه الصلاة (وهي مناجاة فردية) بتأمل يقول:
"احفظْ لسانك من الشر، وشفتيك من قول الكذب."
وأضاف حكّان أن القرآن الكريم يعلّم التوازن في الخطاب،
إذ أوحى الله للنبيّ موسى أن يتحدّث مع فرعون بلطفٍ وبلينٍ في الكلام. "قولًا لينًا".
وأشار إلى أن كلامنا يمكن أن يكون حازمًا، لكنه يجب أن يبقى محترمًا.
وشارك جميع الحاضرين بآرائهم في النقاش.
تحدث ريموند بأسفٍ عن الخداع السياسي في وسائل الإعلام،
ودعا الجميع إلى الصدق واللطف، مضيفًا أن التحيّز والأحكام المسبقة هما الحاجز الأكبر أمام الحقيقة.
أما جودي ل. فقد عبّرت عن خوفها من المحكمة العليا، قائلة إنها ترى فيها اليوم دليلاً على الانحياز.
وتحدث كريس عن صعوبة التواصل في عصرنا الحديث المليء بـ"حقول الألغام" اللفظية،
وأشار إلى أن المبدأ الذي يرشده هو: "قُل الحقيقة بمحبة."
وأضافت كيلي تذكيرًا بأن يسوع كان يكلّم الناس على مستويات مختلفة ؛ إذ كان يتحدث بالأمثال التي تهدف إلى إيصال حقائق أخلاقية وروحية.
واختتمت جودي ب. اللقاء بذكر مسيرة الوحدة القادمة التي ينظمها مجلس الديانات في منطقة واشنطن الكبرى،
ودعت الجميع للمشاركة فيها.
