Nablus Area Interfaith Encounter Group- 2 encounters

September 17, 2021

The recent encounter of the Nablus region group of IEA was interesting and different. We were supposed to go to the Waterslide at Ouja spring, however when we arrived it was hot, there was limited shade and lots of trash, so at the last minute we decided to drive in a caravan of cars to Wadi Qelt. Unfortunately, one family decided to stay behind as they had just been to Qelt the previous day. Wadi Qelt involved first a 10-minute descent through the mountain into the Wadi, which brought us to the upper parking lot. From there was another 10-15-minute hike carrying our gear to get to the desired shaded spot to set up grills and go for a swim. But the location was good and we got to spend a few hours before leaving.

What an amazing encounter! We received a very special guided tour in the Samaritan village - specifically to see their Sukkot. Unlike the Sukkot of the Jews, they hang fruits in their Salons. We visited the Sukkah of their high priest and then afterwards received a tour of their Synagogue where we learned about the religion and history of the Samaritan people. We finished the tour with a visit to the Har Bracha Tahini factory. What a treat!
