Young Adults in Jerusalem Interfaith Encounter Group- December 26th, 2025

The group met for a session dedicated to discussing their first encounter with “the other”-their initial experience of meeting people from a different community, whether through visiting their neighborhoods or being present in their spaces, and the accompanying feelings and impressions.

 

The Jewish participants began by explaining that this experience wasn't entirely new to them, particularly due to their early interactions with Arabs at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, especially during their preparatory year, where many Jewish and Arab students meet. They explained that this period provided a natural space for getting to know each other and helped break down initial barriers. One participant shared that he grew up in Modi'in and used to see Arab families with their children in public parks, which instilled in him a sense of natural familiarity and lack of fear. Another participant mentioned that his first encounter with Arabs was through Arab workers employed in his family home. He developed a direct relationship with them and began learning Arabic, which made the experience simpler and less stressful.

 

Most of the Arab participants indicated that the primary difficulty in meeting Jews was the Hebrew language barrier. They stated that their initial contact was mostly through public transportation, particularly the light rail connecting northern and southwestern Jerusalem. Some also shared that their first direct encounter with Jews occurred during their preparatory year at the Hebrew University. Others spoke of their initial experiences involving encounters with police or passing through checkpoints, explaining that, despite their aversion to these experiences, they were able to distinguish between civilian Jews and those performing official duties.

 

Several participants described feelings of curiosity and apprehension during these initial encounters, but these feelings quickly transformed into comfort after direct interaction and personal introductions. Participants from both sides agreed that direct human interaction is a crucial tool for breaking down stereotypes and building deeper, mutual understanding between people from diverse backgrounds. At the conclusion of the encounter, and on the occasion of the end of 2025, the participants shared their wishes for the new year, hoping it would be a year of peace and security, following years filled with wars and tensions, particularly 2024. Despite the difficult circumstances, the participants welcomed the new year with optimism and hope for a better future. The encounter concluded in an atmosphere of respect and openness, emphasizing the importance of such gatherings in deepening mutual understanding, strengthening shared human values, and building spaces for dialogue, listening, and trust.

קבוצת המפגש הבין של צעירים בירושלים - 26 בדצמבר, 2025

הקבוצה נפגשה למפגש שהוקדש לדיון במפגש הראשון של המשתתפים עם "האחר" - החוויה הראשונית שלהם במפגש עם אנשים מקהילה אחרת, בין אם באמצעות ביקור בשכונותיהם או נוכחות במרחבים שלהם, והרגשות והרשמים הנלווים.

 

המשתתפים היהודים פתחו בהסבר שחוויה זו אינה חדשה להם לחלוטין, במיוחד בשל האינטראקציות המוקדמות שלהם עם ערבים באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים, במיוחד במהלך שנת המכינה שלהם, שם נפגשים סטודנטים יהודים וערבים רבים. הם הסבירו שתקופה זו סיפקה מרחב טבעי להיכרות וסייעה בשבירת מחסומים ראשוניים. משתתף אחד סיפר שגדל במודיעין ונהג לראות משפחות ערביות עם ילדיהן בגנים ציבוריים, מה שהטמיע בו תחושה של היכרות טבעית וחוסר פחד. משתתף אחר הזכיר שהמפגש הראשון שלו עם ערבים היה דרך עובדים ערבים שהועסקו בבית משפחתו. הוא פיתח איתם קשר ישיר והחל ללמוד ערבית, מה שהפך את החוויה לפשוטה ופחות מלחיצה.

 

רוב המשתתפים הערבים ציינו כי הקושי העיקרי במפגש עם יהודים היה מחסום השפה העברית. הם ציינו כי הקשר הראשוני שלהם היה בעיקר באמצעות תחבורה ציבורית, ובמיוחד הרכבת הקלה המחברת את צפון ודרום ירושלים. חלקם גם כן סיפרו כי המפגש הישיר הראשון שלהם עם יהודים התרחש במהלך שנת המכינה שלהם באוניברסיטה העברית. אחרים סיפרו על חוויותיהם הראשוניות של מפגשים עם משטרה או מעבר במחסומים, והסבירו שלמרות סלידתם מחוויות אלו, הם הצליחו להבחין בין יהודים כאזרחים לבין אלו הממלאים תפקידים רשמיים.

 

מספר משתתפים תיארו תחושות של סקרנות וחשש במהלך מפגשים ראשוניים אלה, אך תחושות אלו הפכו במהרה לנוחות לאחר אינטראקציה ישירה והיכרות אישית. משתתפים משני הצדדים הסכימו כי אינטראקציה אנושית ישירה היא כלי מכריע לשבירת סטריאוטיפים ולבניית הבנה הדדית עמוקה יותר בין אנשים מרקעים מגוונים. בסיום המפגש, ולרגל סוף שנת 2025, שיתפו המשתתפים את משאלותיהם לשנה החדשה, בתקווה שתהיה שנה של שלום וביטחון, לאחר שנים מלאות מלחמות ומתחים, ובמיוחד 2024. למרות הנסיבות הקשות, המשתתפים קיבלו את פני השנה החדשה באופטימיות ובתקווה לעתיד טוב יותר. המפגש הסתיים באווירה של כבוד ופתיחות, תוך הדגשת חשיבותם של מפגשים כאלה בהעמקת ההבנה ההדדית, חיזוק ערכים אנושיים משותפים ובניית מרחבים לדיאלוג, הקשבה ואמון.

مجموعة اللقاء بين الديانات لشباب القدس - 26 كانون الأول 2025

عقدت مجموعة اللقاء بين الديانات للشباب في القدس لقاءً جمع مشاركين عربًا ويهودًا، وتركّز حول موضوع “اللقاء الأول مع الآخر”، أي التجارب الأولى التي خاضها المشاركون في التعرّف على أفراد من مجتمع مختلف، وما رافق ذلك من مشاعر وانطباعات.

 

أفاد المشاركون اليهود بأن هذه التجارب لم تكن جديدة بالكامل، نظرًا لاحتكاكهم المبكر مع طلاب عرب، خاصة خلال السنة التحضيرية في الجامعة العبرية في القدس، التي تُعد مساحة طبيعية للتعارف وكسر الحواجز الأولية. كما أشار بعضهم إلى تجارب شخصية سابقة، سواء من خلال التفاعل في أماكن عامة أو عبر علاقات مباشرة، مما ساهم في بناء شعور بالاعتياد وتقليل التوتر.

 

في المقابل، أشار معظم المشاركين العرب إلى أن التحدي الأساسي في اللقاء مع اليهود تمثّل في حاجز اللغة العبرية. وذكروا أن احتكاكهم الأول غالبًا ما كان من خلال المواصلات العامة، أو في سياقات أكاديمية، بينما ارتبطت بعض التجارب الأولى بسياقات رسمية مثل الحواجز أو التعامل مع الشرطة، مع تأكيدهم على قدرتهم على التمييز بين الأفراد في أدوارهم المدنية والرسمية.

 

أجمع المشاركون من الجانبين على أن مشاعر الفضول والتردد التي رافقت اللقاءات الأولى تحوّلت تدريجيًا إلى شعور بالراحة والانفتاح من خلال التفاعل المباشر. وأكدوا أن اللقاء الإنساني المباشر يشكّل أداة فعّالة في تقليل الصور النمطية وتعزيز الفهم المتبادل.

 

وفي ختام اللقاء، وبمناسبة نهاية عام 2025، عبّر المشاركون عن تطلعاتهم لعام يسوده السلام والأمان، مؤكدين أهمية استمرار مثل هذه اللقاءات في ظل التحديات القائمة، لما لها من دور في تعزيز القيم الإنسانية المشتركة وبناء مساحات آمنة للحوار والثقة.
