:disabled selector not working?

I can't get the :disabled selector to work on IE 6, 7 or 8.  Example code is at:

Clicking on the Disable All button should turn text red and italic on the field items.

(The table below that butotn is there to show that some selectivizr functionality - i.e. the :nth-child() selector - is working okay.)
