Jakartans spend 400 hours a year in traffic (ITDP 2015). Rapid urbanization and growth of suburban areas in the metropolitan region of Jakarta among other mega cities in the world, have caused long commuting using motorized vehicles and with that air pollution, lack of family time, and subsequently lower quality of life. Proper public transportation such as MRT, which started running in 2019, has given a new hope. Departing from Jakarta and looking at other cities such as Dubai and Singapore, this webinar would like to discuss an essential question in planning, designing and managing public transportation in urban areas: what can cities do to achieve equal mobility for all?
