Trying to get the most recent Mote installed so that I can get back to writing my framework, however the updater keeps failing and I can't find a place to just download the most up to date version directly. The only link I find is for 1.16, and upon opening it tells me that to login I need to be on 1.16.6. Trying to update from within the application simply fails silently, closing the application. I found the actual updater.exe in the install path, but the only progress that really made was in learning what the error was, "Access Denied."

I've tried running as an admin, adding mote.exe and updater.exe as exceptions in BitDefender, and even disabling BitDefender entirely, but in every case it fails.

Is there a simple download for 1.16.6, because I cannot find a way to let the updater work.

EDIT: I've also noticed that despite using the link here: https://front.idleideas.biz/ for 1.16, the application still lists the version in the very top left of the window as "1.15.2"

Thanks for the report Calvin, unfortunately, we've all taken time off this week. Hopefully, we can resolve this w/o needing access to our machines.

When you use the updater outside Mote, you must be sure that no instance of Mote is running else it cannot be overwritten by the update.

We're planning to issue new installers, once we've seen proven stability. This will allow us to downgrade error logging, and shrink the size of files by almost half.

Thanks for the catch on the site's version info. We'll fix that once we can redeploy :)

wait, sorry, i misunderstood. the version is wrong on the app, you mean, correct? what OS are you using? it's either we didn't update the OS X build's info.plist file, or it's an old bug in Linux environments.

When I go to the download page it says that I'm downloading 1.16. When I install and open that application it says on the top left of the window that it's version "1.15.2". And I'm on Windows, and when I run the updater from within Mote it closes it (All the way closed, no process hanging around) but the update fails silently. And when I did it manually by running the updater directly Mote was also not running.

Additionally, I have found a way to get past the updater failing. It does finish the download after all, it just doesn't install the files (Despite Mote being closed and running the updater with admin privilages). So I found the archive in the temp folder and extracted that over my install. That got 1.16.6 installed and running on my computer.

However, several things fail to work then. Maybe it's because that's not how I'm supposed to update, maybe because other stuff is actually broken.

The first is that logging in to Sandstorm fails. Regardless of the credentials I enter the report is "Unable to login to the service. Please try again later."
Second is that after going ahead without a Sandstorm login, trying to save any of my work gives these errors: "Could not save progress: java.io.IOException: Access is denied." and "Could not export campaign repository file."
I'm guessing that both of these issues are due to the messed up way in which I did the update though, so I don't know for sure if these are real issues with the program.

Thanks again for the added details, Calvin. Truly sorry about the inconveniences you're experiencing.

When you say you disabled BitDefender, how did you go about it? Did you try opening up Task Manager, and see if any related services, were still active? Going by the details, something is interfering with the I/O processes involved during updating. We tried going through the install process from a fresh install on a system w/o protection and it proceeded without a hitch i.e. 1.16 to 1.16.6. We tried on a machine that had AV protection (AVAST!), and it proceeded in the same way.

If you can, could you try on a system w/o BitDefender?

Thanks.

Finally have the time once again to develop my framework, and it appears that Bitdefender is the issue. I've installed Mote on a laptop with AVG and installation and updating is all working fine. However when I try to log in to Sandstorm I'm still getting the following error: Unable to login to the service. Please try again later."
