PROPOSAL FOR STARTING A LOCAL CHAPTER

Hi,

 

Ananya, please get the contact numbers of the top 15 rankers soon, we got to submit the final list of selected students by monday. Also can you tell who else from your college is interested so that we can add them to the group. Also, can you please forward the email-id of the Professor who supervises everything out there (I forgot his name). We can ask Shamnad Sir to send him a mail. That way we can atleast have support of one faculty now.

 

We need to know whether Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences ("KISS" :-P) has 11th and 12th standard. If it does, how many students it has in each of those classes. If we get an entry into that school, it will be really great since KIIT University claims that KISS is the largest school for tribals in south asia. A friend of mine told me that his uncle is in the board of directors of KIIT university and he is willing to get us in touch with that person. But I think it would be good if we have every detail about KIIT/KISS and the problems that IDIA volunteers are facing due to lack of support from the university. For this we need people from KLS to go and talk to the authorities of KISS. Please form a team of 4-5 members, get in touch with the authorities and tell us their response.

 

Regarding NLUO, Cuttack, We fortunately have a few people who have good contacts out there. Ramanuj's sister, Sangita Muherjee, who studies in NLUO seems quite enthusiastic about this project (I hope she beats her brother in this :-P) and even Shreya told Anusha that the faculty would support us in this. However, Prof. Mustafa hasn't yet responded to Prof. Basheer's mail, so I guess we shouldn't be too optismistic about getting help from the administration. Vaibhav Verma will be travelling to Cuttack tonight and it would be great if he along with Sangita can talk to students and try to form a team there. Materials relevant for this purpose will be mailed by Diptoshree to IDIAODISHA group by tonight. Kindly go through them before your interaction with students. Incase of any doubts please feel free to contact anyone from the IDIA team.

 

Regarding help from the administration, Prajna will be talking to her dad, who is a good friend of Prof. Mustafa, who in turn would personally try to persuade him to encourage students to join IDIA. If prof. Mustafa agrees, we can take his help to gain entry into KIIT (if we are still outside the gates of that University), since he is the ex-director of KIIT University and I hope he has a good influence out there.

 

Diptoshree, please mail all the relevant materials to this group so that Vaibhav can spread the word among the students of NLUO, Cuttack.

 

This is what I propose to do. Please feel free to share your views and ideas. Since we have not yet formed local chapters, I am also sending this mail to the main group for feedback and guidance from people who are more experinced. 

 

We have an awesome bunch of people working together. We might face a lot of objections but we do not have to overcome everything now. We will overcome each and every obstacle as we progress.

The last I knew, KIIT was awfully upset with Prof Mustafa leaving....so tread that route very carefully. Perhaps best to not approach KIIT through him, unless he volunteers.

And were you the one that mentioned that KIIT was hostile to the IDIA project and has asked their students to not participate. Why so? If true, we should probably just have a committed bunch of students from NLUO along with you guys run the program for this year there.

Sir,

I agree with you regarding KIIT being upset over Prof. Mustafa joining
NLUO. Lets convince him only for NLUO then.

It was me who told you that KIIT is hostile to this project. I said
that based on what I had heard from a KLS student during the
vacations. Maybe because KIIT is a private university and would want
students to join its own college instead of opting for NLUs, that they
are hostile to this project.

However I do not have any concrete reason as to their hostility. And
because we already have 4-5 students from that college who are
interested in IDIA, I suggest that they go as a team and approach the
authorities because Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences is someplace
where we can find tribals from across Odisha being picked up and given
quality education and given that both belong to the same university,
our volunteers from KLS can always be in touch with them.

Dear Javed,
I spoke to Anjan, a 4th yr student of KIIT, who is interested in the project and has promised to help us as much as he can to take IDIA forward at KIIT. He spoke to Amartya also I believe. I was informed that Prof. N.Chakraborty, who is the Director of KIIT has already given his approval and support for the project. Therefore, the only job left for us to do is to form a team of dedicated volunteers who will work to implement the objectives of IDIA in and around Bhubaneshwar.
Amartya: Have you already formed your team? If yes, can you send me the names and contact information of those students?
I hope you have been able to select 5 students from among those 15 mentioned in your last email. Should you require any assistance with the selection please let me know.
I think now we should concentrate on setting up the IDIA chapter at NLUO and get in touch with Prof. Mustafa.
Sangita can you form your team soon and get in touch with Prof. Mustafa? We have to finish our sensitization processes by mid- August and start training the students for CLAT 2011.

people are quite interested to work on this project.We will talk to VC
in the coming week,as he is leaving Orissa today we have decided that
it's better to talk to him later. He will be back within 2/3
