Greetings everyone,

Its been a long time. Hope all of you are in good health now that the swine flu menace has ended. Unfortunately, this has caused undue delay to the IDIA Orissa project and now that its september, I think (and invite your views) its quite late to pick up students for the 2011 law entrance examinations.

I have attached a mail sent by Prof. Shamnad regarding the listing of members from local chapters. I request one of you to volunteer for the same, in fact, someone who can lead the teams, both in KLS and NLUO. I have already added the names of almost all the people that were suggested after the meeting we had and in case I have missed out on some, kindly let me know.

It is really important that you respond to emails. The purpose of creating this google group was to have a platform where we can share our ideas and experiences. Unfortunately, we haven't seen much of it. So please take it a bit seriously. As Sir rightly says in the mail, only those who have done some work will be issued certificates and not everyone who has volunteered their names. As far as we are concerned, we are not in a position to ask for a certificate since we haven't really done anything. So lets get working and the certificate shall follow soon.

Regards,
Javed

Dear Fellow IDIANS:

Please see below.

Also please note that these policy documents will be forwarded to the CLAT committee only in the next 2-3 days. If some of you can take a look at these documents to spot obvious errors or suggest additions etc, I’d be very grateful.

Prajna, Shambo etc...please take a final close look at these documents. Since they will be uploaded soon to our IDIA website. Also please take a look at list of folks we acknowledged for help and please ensure that we didn't forget names here.

Hersh is working on a comprehensive disabilities note that colleges can incorporate. Those of you who are passionate about this theme, please volunteer your help and join him in preparing this.

Lastly, we need to upload details of all IDIA team members and local chapters on the website. And also list out team members by tasks (research, training etc).

Can local team leaders come back with list of members, as I’d requested previously? Please copy Bhargav on this email. Bhargav: how many leaders have sent this list?

Team leaders: please ensure that you only include the names of those that have actually put in some significant work. We will not acknowledge or issue certificates to any members that have listed their names but have not done any work so far. I have issued enough calls on this list for volunteer activities—so they should also not be permitted to use the excuse of “no” work...

Lastly, I need some of you that are IT savvy to help me form a  website team. We want you to take a close look at our beta site, test it out and give recommendations for improvement. Please let me know if this is your cup of tea and you have the time and inclination to help with this.

Thank you very much,

SB

Professor MP Singh
Chairman
CLAT Committee, 2010-2011

Dear Professor Singh:

Thank you very much for your suggestion that I play an active role on the CLAT committee that will conceptualise and implement CLAT 2011.

Unfortunately, I am now leading a project (IDIA) that seeks to train underprivileged students for CLAT 2011. Owing to this potential conflict, may I please excuse myself from any involvement with this Committee?

On a related note, may I please present the following policy notes evolved by the Research and Policy (RAP) wing of the IDIA project for kind consideration by you and the CLAT committee. One note deals with potential reforms to CLAT and the admissions process. The other deals with scholarship policies. I hope you can table both these notes at the forthcoming meeting of the CLAT Committee on the 25th of September.

Thanking you very much, I remain,

Most sincerely yours,

Shamnad

Thank you javed da! We are in good health and the mid sem is going on. It's till 20th sep. I think I have sent you a mail contained the names of all the volunteers almost 29 names from our university. Certificates will obviously follow by work, so we need not to think about that right now. For the time being  can you suggest which kind of work we can do now, this year? We have selected 4 institutions and need to talk to the institution heads regarding sensitization campaign that is where we left our work. what to do now?

Hi,

Good to hear from you. I have added all the names that you had provided me. As far as work is concerned this is what I am proposing. Feel free to share your thoughts also:

We can begin our sensitisation program immediately, however I feel (and it is completly my personal opinion) that the students we select will not be in a position to prepare well for the law entrance exams considering the little time left and the educational background of the students. For this reason I think we should sensitise students from the 11th standard and target the entrance examinations of 2012. It is undoubtedly true that the selected students will not be good in english (i have no statistics to prove this, but general experience of the IDIAns thruought India) which will eventually become a major hindrance in clearing the entrance and subsequently throughout their law school life if at all they crack. So once these people are selected we can focus solely on their english training till IMS starts its fresh coaching in 2011 for CLAT 2012. What I propose is that after giving them a good amount of training in english for about 8-9 months, we can conduct an exam on them solely based on english and select only those students who do really well in english and put them through the IMS coaching. This way we select students with talent and also train them for the IMS coaching.

Next regarding sensitisation, there are certain things that need to be done. There is an entire document which provides a general guidance for conducting sensitisation and I have it with this mail. It also makes sense to divide yourselves into different groups during the sensitisation program i.e. a few may volunteer to talk to the students, while at the same time a couple of you may go and explain the entire thing to the principal and other teachers so that we can get help from them in monitoring these students. Next, after administering the aptitude test we need a huge group to correct the papers as soon as possible (trust me, this is the most boring job since it has to be done without a single mistake). This I think can be done by the entire group which goes to the school. After the correction we need someone who is excellent with microsoft excel and can tabulate the report therein. We also need someone who is interested and is good at writing to prepare a report of the entire program. And of course someone to try a little bit of photography. After correcting the papers, we need people to get in touch with the students soon and if possible their with parents to finalise those who are interested in law. This is something that really needs to be planned out thoroughly, cause we failed in our attempt to persuade students from BJEM school and I do not want our efforts to go in vain. Kindly refer to the attached file for more information and please discuss your doubts with all and plan your strategy properly.

Secondly, we need some creative hands to get in touch with IMS people and prepare IDIA/IMS leaflets and boomarks with a little bit of humour which can be distributed among the students so that they can take it home and give their parents. I shall send some templates soon.

Finally with regard to funding. We need to generate funds for the program locally. Any ideas on that???

This is all I have in mind right now. And one final thing. Please dont take it otherwise but there are approximately 50 students in this group but it is just the 3 or 4 students who respond to any mail I send or discussion that takes place. Please, we need ideas from each one of you. It doesnt matter if you do not like any idea that is proposed, maybe, your view is correct and believe me it shall be respected.

@KLS: What about the school of language (i dont know the exact name). How far do you think they will help us in training the students in english???

Javed

Hi Javed da,
This is really helpful. I am trying to start working as soon as
possible. I have no idea about fund generation. please help me out
with that, give me some idea. I will select some people(1/2) for
designing the leaflets. I have one doubt, that is who is going to take
the responsibility of training the selected people for these 9/8
monthes? I think it will be a burden for us( students).I am not sure
if we are ready to do that.
