Hey,

Here is a brief about how NLSIU is carrying the project forward. You can customise the same acording to your needs. This really works. Hope you make good use of this.

Hi

I'm very sorry about the delay, there are various reasons for it that I will not bother you with. PFA some basic material that should get you started.

The mandate of the legal aid cell in NLSIU is

1) legal aid and awareness

2) addressing legal queries and issues

We try to fulfill the first by conducting legal literacy programs, PFA our guide that details the skits we perform. The format is that we conduct these short skits and ask the audience to identify issues, or point out what was 'wrong'. We try to make this as interactive as possible and prefer it if the answers come primarily from the audience. Once these issues are raised, we highlight the ways in which the law deals with these issues.

In order to fulfill the second, we have a small room which we keep open from 4-6 pm throughout the week. People come to us in person and we try to address their queries. We also have a system of answering queries through email.

This might sound complicated but it really isn't, all you need to start is the material attached (and if you can think of improvements we'd be happy to hear of them). Once you officially constitute your group, it’s just a matter of going to neighbouring schools (target the low income ones, the swanky ones will not respond too keenly and the kids will know everything you have to say :P) and asking them for dates and times. Keep your LLPs short, not more than an hour and take along some toffees for the young kids.

You could create your email id and make this known at LLPs, this will provide publicity and get you clients. It also helps to try and constitute a pro bono panel of alumni from your institute who will help you handle the more complicated cases for free.

More information coming soon, hopefully on our website. http://nls-lsc.org/

We sincerely hope you are able to carry this forward and are absolutely delighted to help in whatever way we can.

Cheers

Aqseer

Hey,

Good to know that the llp presentation helped. As athira has stated in her mail, you can customise it according to your local needs. About asking the VC for a room etc. I would suggest that you first come up with a good plan for providing these services, then ask your VC to help you to make your efforts known in the legal circle. Moreover once you have formed the team and other things, you can use the regional media to highlight your efforts. Believe me, it is the first few batches that can really make a difference and I would say is that you guys are lucky to be so :-)

Regards,
Javed
