You also now have the ability to create custom symbols. I used a unicode character to add the LH bracket in one of my scores and it worked reasonably well. Not quite perfect, but perfectly acceptable.

I am curious about the bracket though. The string part goes back and forth between divisi and unison. So I think that bracket clarifies it not to be a divisi part. And I have tried to do multiple voices when it is divisi to make better sense.
Hi all,
Wondering if there is yet any way to add this non-div bracket, or a bracket above to indicate the duration of playing on a single string. See the two examples attached:
If not yet official, any suggestion for a workaround would be very helpful.
Thanks,
David
When a First and Second Ending is required at the end of the music, the performer plays the First Ending, then goes back to the beginning of the music (following the Repeat Sign) and plays again. The Second Time through, the performer skips the First Ending and goes directly to the Second Ending.
Ti-Do Tip: Volta Brackets - or First and Second Ending Brackets - do not touch the staff. They are written directly above the staff. They are aligned vertically with the bar lines for each of the endings. When writing Volta Brackets, be certain to NOT let any part of the music (articulation, dynamics or any other musical element) touch the Volta Brackets.
When this occurs in music, a Right Facing Repeat Sign will often be found at the beginning of the section (or the beginning of the piece of music) as a reminder that there will be multiple repeats. (Not sure what a "Right Facing Repeat Sign" is? Check out my blog on Repeat Sign Dots.)
If you write expressive, beautiful music, Sibelius just picks its favourite passages and drops expression lines on them.
In my case, the software gets too enthusiastic with the markings and I end up having to manually delete some.
But why do we (ie. me) care so much about those debates in the first place? We have more music at our fingertips than ever before in human history; why waste time arguing over it? Why not just admit that there are a lot of great songs being made and enjoy all of them? Why is this sort of artificial sports-influenced showdown that prompts me to keep reaching for the refresh button in my web browser.
I typically do one bracket per day (so two songs) in the first round and then I take a vote in class. Although due to state testing, on some days I did 2 brackets per day.
For the next rounds, I put a youtube playlist of the winners on my class website and had students fill out a google survey to calculate their votes.
To display a bracket of variable height in a scoring application, usebracketTop and bracketBottom as the top and bottom terminals of abracket drawn using a stroked line or filled rectangle of theappropriate width.
