Hello community,

I am working on a bunch of reports for idempiere 2.1 and due to compatibility reasons I am using Jaspersoft Reports Studio 5.5.1 as designer IDE.

This software is crashing frequently. Positioning fields within table columns is a try and error exercise with obvious heavy bugs in the software.
Straight forward designing without working around the omnipresent bugs like a slalom driver isn't possible. A simple report design takes much more time than it should.

Often I need to do debug in XML because the visual designer positions things all over the place and the compiler would fail to compile (WYSI->NOT<-WYG).

Now I am failing linking parameters for a masterreport->table relationship because the IDE would "forget" what I entered when trying to save the file...

I could go on like this for hours.

Needless to say that iReport was a much better software than this p.o.s. by Tibco (not to mention Crystal and its successor).

Anyone with similar experience? Anyone using a different (perhaps newer, more reliable) version of Jasper Studio to design reports for iDempiere?

Peter, I use iReport-5.6.0

The two times I tried jasper studio in ubuntu didn't work well - and I
just go back to work on the iReport-5.6.0

I use ubuntu and any of the 3 following solutions worked with jasperstudio:

  1. Customize the Jaspersoft Studio (Professional).ini file located in the same folder of your Jaspersoft Studio installation (i.e /opt/jaspersoft/jaspersoftstudiopro-5.5.0.final/Jaspersoft Studio Professional.ini) appending the following JVM argument:

    -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla
  2. Specify the JVM argument above when running your Jaspersoft Studio installation from command line. Example below:

    -vmargs -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla
  3. Modify the config.ini file of your Jaspersoft Studio installation as follows (i.e /opt/jaspersoft/jaspersoftstudiopro-5.5.0.final/configuration/config.ini):

    org.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla

Thank you all for your kind and helpful advise!

* good old iReport 5.6.0 seems to work very well on my Ubuntu 14.04LTS - at least from what I can say after playing with it for an hour :-)

* DefaultType=Mozilla has fixed the application crashes shortly after Jasper Studio starts. I did that already a few months ago. But it doesn't address all the other issues, including random crashes.

* Jaspersoft Studio 5.6.2 may be worth while a try as principally I like the concept of it. But I fear the sloppiness Tibco demonstrated so far...

Again many thanks.

Cheers,
Peter
