Hi All

I am in the process of evaluating Idempiere/ADempiere.

I want to know what are the options available for Integration with external systems. I have an operational system that would create some of the sales orders the operational system works gr8 and highly specialised).  I want to get the sales order details (say an XML file/Webservice etc) and pass in to Idempiere. Idempiere would take it through financial approval process (ex: approval of discounts/ Credit etc) and once transaction is OK to go through it will pass a message back to the operational system confirming the sales order and providing the green light to proceed.

As the transaction in the operational system is getting completed  (ex: Manufacturing of an ordered item/Shipment etc)  there would be many such interactions that would required some part of the workflow running in the operational system and some parts running on Idempiere. Idempiere is expected to work more like financial back end for some types of transactions, while some other transactions would use Idempiere for the full cycle.

Any ideas/guidance and best practice on how to achieve such is much appreciated.

Cheers

K.C

It will always be complex any ERP. But the goods are there. Such as for WebServices, it is more advanced with composite type of pulling a master doc with its lines (see http://wiki.idempiere.org/en/NF1.0_Web_Services_Improvements).
It is the best complex framework to work with such as Libero MFG plugin that you can continue to modify (see https://sourceforge.net/projects/red1/files/p2/LiberoMFG/)

I would also advise you extend your search to more simpler ERPs such as OpenERP in case your needs are not requiring much modification. iDempiere is serious stuff for serious customization and highly complex parts. Then it is a killer.

Good luck.

Hi

Thanks for the brief.  I will look in to this web service. I am looking this ERP for a complex organisation. (muti-country, mult-location, different business lines different legal entities etc.).  We would need a fairly sophisticated ERP to meet all the needs.  So I would assume trying to figure the integration would be much simpler work than trying to get a one of the flatter ERPs to work with the organisation.

Cheers

Hi K.C,

Complexity is complex by itself :)
IMHO iDempiere might lack completed feature compare to commercial ERP but it has quite various tools to help ease your development effort.
