Is there a conventions guide that describes table prefix meanings ( AD_ M_ C_ GL_ etc.) and what is the preferred prefix for a custom table?

Have a look at

Besides what is recommended there for your own prefix I would recommend
to create your own entity type(s) with a three or four letter
abbreviation and use that as table prefix (and for the type for that
table and its columns and so on of course).

Awesome! Thank you Dirk. I am new to iDempiere and I haven't paid attention to the Adempiere WIKI (although i do search the iDempiere WIKI). Looks like there is a lot of good stuff there!
