what exactly do you want to do with the scanner. We use barcodescanner to read UPC and serialnumber. Because the scanner acts as a keyboard there is no special integration, we simply activate the scanner with the field active for which the data is intended.

Martin

Hi Bell,
I have attached some simple documentation of an example of barcode scanner integration (and touchscreen integration).
This was done some years back in the adempiere framework but hopefully it could be modified or extended to use in idempiere if it was of use to someone.
The code is published under GPLv2  on sourceforge (I can't give you a link as I am not a technical; person .. but can ask someone if it interests you)
regards
steven

Steven that looks very useful. It's just begging to be turned into an Idempiere plugin.

Dear Martin

Can you explain to me about " we simply activate the scanner with the field active for which the data is intended. "

How to do it

Many Thank for your help

Hi,

as I told above, we use it to scan e.g. UPC. So when entering an new line in an order the focus is on the product field and any input either of keyboard or scanner is entered in this field. The scanner then additionally sends a tab or enter key so the input is evaluated.

Perhaps you could explain a bit more what you want to achieve. Then the help you get will be more specific.

Regards,
Martin

Hi Martin

Thanks for your quick response,

Summary:

Integrating a barcode scanner with iDempiere is seamless because most scanners act as a "keyboard emulator" (HID). Simply plug the scanner into your device or pair via Bluetooth, click into an iDempiere input field (like Product or Locator), and scan the item to automatically populate the data.

Scanners from brands like Zebra, Honeywell, or Eppos operate as Human Interface Devices (HID). They require no custom drivers. When you scan a barcode, the scanner types out the corresponding characters and hits "Enter" just like a physical keyboard.

When performing physical inventory counts, picking, or receiving, place your cursor directly into the Product ValueUPC/EAN, or Locator fields, then scan the barcode. iDempiere will instantly search and load the associated item.

Configure your barcode scanner to transmit a carriage return (an "Enter" keystroke) immediately after the barcode data. This eliminates the need for the user to manually click or press the enter key after every scan, significantly speeding up warehouse and POS data entry.

Is it True?

Many Thanks
