printing directly from server

Hi,

I tried to get documents printed by the idempiere server (on a linux machine) directly. When setting 'direct print' in the process definition I'll get indeed a direct print as soon as I use the swing-client. But not with the web-client. Is it possible, to get a direct print with the web-client? And if yes, which way can I then get a preview? There is only one button in the web-client to print a document. Did I perhaps remove the real print button accidently?

Thanks for this hint. But in my case the idempiere server is in the intranet, so I hope there is a chance to print directly therefrom.

manager printer isn't a job of idempiere. 

i think you can easy to development a smart plug-in to manage printer on your intranet.

after that provide a list of active printer, so when login, user can select a default printer.

when user push print button, just sent request to server to do print job

I don't really want to manage printers an my intranet. What I want to do is print an invoice for example without user interaction. And what I wanted to know is, whether this doesn't work at the moment, because I configured something wrong or because iDempiere doesn't support printing from the server at all.

try app dict. select your process, field Show help: set "Run silently" - Take Defaults

Hello together,

we had the same requirement. To print invoices and to print a defined amount of labels for the picking of shipments.
Idempiere writes the generated reports in the defined temp folder.
I use this behavior to send this files to my printer.

You can try my bash script.
The script is available on my bitbucket Account. 
Description is in the readme file.

Hi Patric,

thanks for providing your script. I think this is a good work around to get the things running.

But on the long run I prefer an integrated solution. AFAICS there is no real problem to print directly from the server. At the moment the 'direct print'-flag is overriden by the 'preview'-flag. When resetting the 'direct-print'-flag with the debugger printing from the server works. I think, we need two buttons as in the swing client, one to print an one to preview. Maybe the print-button was omitted from the zk-ui because when starting it, the standard client was the swing client and the zk-ui wasn't used for locally hosted server.
