Google that error - seems like an ubuntu issue, or corrupted package.
I would suggest to check with the corresponding MD5 if the file was
correctly downloaded

Dear Carlos Rulz,

You are right. The downloaded file was corrupted. Downloaded it again and then it was installed.

There is another issue now: it looks for openjdk for java jre etc. while I installed oracles java 7. What do you suggest, should I install the openjdk or create some simlink (but I do not know howto) to overcome this problem.

Thanks once again,
 Nagin Chand

Hi Nagin,

Place code similar to the following into your ~/.profile:

export JAVA_HOME=/path/to/your/java
export PATH="${JAVA_HOME}/bin:$PATH"

Log out and back in again (or type . ~/.profile)

Type

echo $PATH

and verify your path is correct, as shown above.

java -version should give you the correct java version.

Easy way must be to install the openjdk present in the repository, the oracle-jdk is not in ubuntu repos so I preferred to go with the default.

Thanks Carlos Antonio Rulz Gomez for the response. I also think the default should be preferred.
