iDempiere Virtual Appliance not working

Greetings,

I have installed the iDempiere Virtual Appliance so I could try out iDempiere before I commit to doing a regular install.  I am not able to get iDempiere to start.  The import appliance worked and when I start the VM, the Linux server starts and runs its scripts, leaving me at the command prompt requesting to login.  The 'Readme' file states that when login prompt appears, open a browser and go to https://192.168.56.42:8443/webui and then login with GardenAdmin, GardenUser, or Superuser logins.  After I enter the IP address of https://192.168.56.42:8443/webui into the browser, I immediately get an error from the browser that states it can't connect.

I am using Windows 10 as my host OS with its Edge browser.

Any ideas as to how to connect the browser to the VM iDempiere?  (I tried localhost and the rest of the IP following the ':' (colon) and that does not work either).

If your running linux in a virtual environment such as Oracle virtual box you must use a browser that's in that environment.  Sounds like your using a browser that's outside of the virtual environment.  Typically when you install Linux it'll include a browser such as Firefox. You can find some instruction videos on YouTube for Oracle virtual box. Hope this helps....

Hi, I've never tried in windows 10, perhaps there is a problem with networking?  Usually the install of the IVA is straight and you can navigate to that URL directly from your windows browser (note the IVA doesn't have a graphics environment, just server).

I think Dirk made some magic there to automatically create that connection on that address - you can review the networking configuration part of the Virtual Machine to see if is something broken.

I'm not familiar with the Idempiere Virtual Appliance, but I am with Oracle Virtualbox.   That said, maybe it's time to upgrade IVA to the latest and greatest Virtualbox which is v5.1.6?  Maybe it'll play nice with Windows 10.  Understand from the available  docs I've seem IVA is using a copy of Virtualbox v3 something. Of course none of this addresses the immediate problem of getting you up and running as-soon-as-possible.

All that said, check out the attached PDF from a a Idempiere Google Group post that addresses a virtual environment problem.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply - I will check out the PDF and see what info it has.  I will also upgrade Virtualbox, although it is only one cycle old as it was a fresh download a few weeks ago from the Oracle site.  The .ova file I have from the iDempiere site was extracted in the current Virtualbox I have on my Windows 10 box.  It is running Alpine Linux and it boots up and goes to the login, I think there is one application that does not start up - ntpd.

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for you reply.  I expect there are issues with networking and Alpine Linux, which I am not familiar with - this is the Linux package that the iDempiere package is built on - I downloaded the latest .ova file from the iDempiere website.  I have another ERP instance that runs in Virtualbox on Ubuntu and uses the host OS web browser to access and it works without any issues - I use the Edge browser in Windows 10.  I am going to download Firefox, install, and try it with iDempiere, just in case there are issues between iDempiere and the Edge browser.
