Good day, community.
Can anyone share if they’ve had experience implementing a dairy farm or a similar business?
Let’s say we have an asset — a cow — which consumes some materials and produces a product, like milk.
How is this kind of setup organized in iDempiere? Thank you.

That could be modeled using the Inventory Decrease/Increase document

When you consume materials, you issue a document with positive numbers (decrease inventory).

When the milk is produced you can issue a document with negative numbers (increase inventory).

You can associate all consumption/production with a specific cow for example defining each cow as a "Project"

Good day, community.

Has anyone implemented a dairy farm or similar livestock-based business in iDempiere?

For example, we have a biological asset — a cow — that:

  • consumes inputs (feed, water, veterinary services),

  • produces a product (milk),

  • and also gives birth to calves, which then become new assets.

How is this kind of scenario typically modeled in iDempiere?

  • Is the cow treated as an asset, a product, or something else?

  • How are ongoing consumption and production handled?

  • What is the recommended way to account for offspring (newborn calves) in terms of inventory, assets, or production?

Any real-world patterns, modules, or best practices would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
