The story is set shortly after the events of Marvel's Secret Invasion story line. Therein, the Skrulls infiltrated the Earth, replacing A-list super heroes with their own shape-shifting operatives. Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman, was replaced by the Skrull queen Veranke.[2] The series starts with Jessica feeling very poorly about her life due to Veranke's actions. She is approached to join S.W.O.R.D. by agent Abigail Brand, which she accepts. Her first mission takes her to Madripoor where she takes on a Skrull posing as Spider-Man. After run-ins with HYDRA, another Skrull and the new Thunderbolts, Jessica takes down a wayward Skrull with the help of her teammates in the New Avengers. After the mission is over, Brand offers her new opportunities within S.W.O.R.D.[3]
i'm really confused now. i always thought & knew that spider-woman CAN'T fly but she can glide on air using her web-wings. but on her wiki page ,it says she is now able to fly ,after the secret invasion ,without the use of the gliding wings. but in "spider-woman: agent of sword" she couldn't fly & save herself when she was falling from a bulding ,actually she jumped from the roof & then said "oh crap, i can't fly ,without the wings on my costume i can't glide on air". and the story took place after the secret invasion. but in avengers vol.4 she is able to fly ,& she is also able to stand on one place & hover like athor full-flying charecters do. so what ? is she able to fly without the costume ?
When disillusioned Jessica Drew (Nicolette Reed), a.k.a. Spider-Woman, is approached by S.W.O.R.D. agent Abigail Brand (Stephanie K. Thomas) to track down renegade Skrulls, she quickly agrees, but discovers that things and people are not what they appear to be.
She is the daughter of Jonathan and Meriem, and was injected with a serum made of the blood of several uncommon species of spiders after being effected by Uranium. After her age accelerated, she was taken under HYDRA until she refused to assassinate Nick Fury, and later left and became the superheroine Spider-Woman. Jessica went onto become an ally of Spider-Man, another superhero who was bitten by a radioactive spider and gave him powers similar to hers. She later became a member of the Avengers, Lady Liberators, Spider-Army, an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and S.W.O.R.D.
Jessica would leave home and work as a barmaid, and eventually started a relationship with a man whom she accidently killed with her bioelectric blast. Accused of being a witch by the locals, Jessica fled and met Otto Vermis, who trained her to be a field agent for Hydra. She lost all of past memories while being trained by Vermis, due to being shock of killing her boyfriend, and was later brainwashed by Marvin Flumm. She was assigned to assassinate Nick Fury, but refused and defeated Vermis, who tricked her into believing she was originally an evolved spider. Jessica fled from Hydra until she met the Thing and Modred the Mystic, who reveled her origins of her past.
Living in London, Jessica broke into a store but felt guilty and left the cans, not wanting her future to living as a thief. After dying her hair and taking on an identity of Spider-Woman to hide from S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jerry Hunt, Jessica met Magnus, who informed her that her father was murdered. Wanting to find the killer, she traveled to North Hollywood and guised herself as Magnus' niece to live with the Dolly family. Jessica would start a relationship with Hunt, and stop Morgaine le Fay from acquiring the Darkhold. Eventually, Jessica find her father's murderer with the help of Hunt, and the killer died immediately after confessing to committing the act.
At a certain point the sheer terror of being outside became unbearable and so, after a spirited back-and-forth between me and myself, we concluded that the best strategy to keep me breathing despite falling skies was to hide myself behind the double-locked door of Fortress Schneider. I was wrong. Fear and Trembling found easy entry into my keep; F & T simply beamed themselves in through the cathode ray tube. By the simple act of turning on the TV, I had become the agent of my own undoing.
