to Idealist
As a veteran user of Idealist I am glad to have come accross this
group as I also have not found a successor to it.
For now, just a bit of background about Idealist and my experience
with it.
It started as a DOS program called 'Archivist', which I bought around
the late198)s to manage references, its original purpose, I believe. I
upgraded to Idealist soon after it was developed and was involved in
introducing it and using it in networked versions in various NHS
Health Authorities, adding 'front ends' for Health Authority users as
an Authority document management environment.
During this time, I met at Blackwells the originator and developer of
Archivist/Idealist, whose name I regretfully forgot:a pity as we need
him now. A bit of a genius, I think.

I have used it since it came out for general notes, a reference
manager and address book as many of you do. I have a 'reference' field
for Internet URLs and directly invoke them using selecting and F11
(for those without a manual). I have had problems occasionally with
indexing, if my computer has shut down illegally, e.g., by having to
do a hard reset. I use MS VISTA.
