Recently, we found several users met such kind of issue. Lets look
into it to learn why it happened and how to solve it.
PSP supports the mp4 file encoded both by H.264 and MPEG-4 codec. But
it has different specifications for the two codecs.
The file encoded by H.264 codec must use the file name begin with
"MAQ" and it must be transferred to the directory "MP_ROOT\100ANV01"
of PSP. If you rename the output file as the DVD's volume or anything
you like, or you transferred it to other directory on PSP, the .mp4
file won't be recognized or played.
On earlier firmware of PSP, the file encoded by MPEG-4 codec must be
transferred to "MP_ROOT\100MNV01" and its file name should begin as
"M4V". In the latest firmware, PSP isn't strict with directory and
file name. The file named as M4Vxxxxx can be transferred to "Video"
folder or "MP_ROOT\100MNV01" directory. You also can rename the
output file as you like, but the renamed file must be transferred to
"Video" folder, otherwise, it won't be played either. PSP also has a
resolution restrictriction with MPEG-4 codec. The max resolution is
320*240 for 4:3 movie and 368*208 for 16:9. 480*272 can't work either.
