If you're a farmer or a landowner (or both) in central Illinois and would welcome the chance to talk all things farmland access (and maybe even get some help with your search for land or a farmer), then
register now for the Common Ground gathering next Sunday.
Common Ground Central will be held at Silver Tree Beer & Spirits in Paxton on Sunday, November 16, from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
(In addition to all that you will read about below, attending this event will be a great opportunity to experience Silver Tree Beer & Spirits, which was founded by the three Glazik brothers - Dallas, Will, and Clay - who had started making biofuels in high school and quickly learned there was more than cow feed to be made with the grain their family farm produced. Building on their home brewing experience, they've started this distillery to make premium drinks and contribute energy to their hometown's downtown.)
Pre-registration is required.. Admission is $10/person. Travel stipends available for farmers which you can apply for during the registration process.
Common Ground events bring farmers, landowners, and local ag advocates together around farmland access and transition challenges in a warm, down-to-earth atmosphere. There's time for conversations and networking as well as discussions and learning. You'll come away with encouragement, mutual support, and hope. And you'll have some fun, good food, and libations as well.
Early on at Sunday's event, American Farmland Trust, Savanna Institute, and Illinois FarmLink will lead a conversation about how to build deeper relationships and creative land access arrangements across the generational gap.
Cross-generational understanding between landowners and farmers (and even within families!) is crucial in so many leasing and farm transition conversations. Let's talk candidly about how to do that.
Common Ground Central is organized by Illinois FarmLink, American Farmland Trust, and the Savanna Institute.
