The other thing that happened during my week off was a bit of childhood nostalgia. I dug out of the loft a near 40-year-old game called Hero Quest. For those of you not lucky enough to have played it, it's a sort of dungeons and dragons board game with dice and miniature characters that you move around a board on adventures. I wasn't sure my kids would like it. Too 'old fashioned'. But you know what, they absolutely loved it. We played it for hours. Again, in a world dominated by digital and AI (dragging my kids away from the PS5 isn't easy!), it was refreshing to do something a little more analogue that forced all of us to use our imaginations and be creative. The story telling, our creativity, was once again the critical part; the board simply the prop for us to visualise and bring it to life.
