Setelah install Ubuntu-desktop di Konsole mode Ubuntu server, ternyata Resolusi video berubah

Setelah menginstal Ubuntu-server 7.04 kemudian saya pun meng add repo
4 DVD. Setelah itu saya ingin punya tampilan GNOME layaknya di Ubuntu
Feisty Fawn. Maka saya mengetikkan di

project@server$: sudo apt-get instal ubuntu-desktop

Kemudian hampir 20 min konfigurasi dan install di desktop, PC pun
selesai dan minta direboot. Tapi ternyata setelah restart, tulisan
font menjadi besar2 dan ada karakter dan juga blok warna-warni di
desktop yang intinya susah untuk menempatkan kursor (dengan tombol
TAB) biasanya untuk memilih perintah.

Dan saya masukkan login id dan password saya, tapi sistem tidak
membaca/ detect. Langkah apa yang harus saya lakukan untuk restore ke
sistem sebelum update ke ubuntu-desktop. Dan salah satu juga saya
tidak bisa ke konsole mode lagi karna masih gantung di login user id.

Kalau setelah di teks mode kemudian mesti edit Xorg.conf nya yah?

yup benar sekali... atau setelah tombol diatas di tekan langsung
matiin servicesnya dengan $ sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop

Setelah anda berhasil masuk ke konsole linux
matikan gdm
$sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
Lakukan Configurasi ulang Xserver ( Xorg ) anda dgn perintah
$sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
biasanya saya menghilangakn option -phigh untuk mendapatkan resolusi
yang lebih berfariasi

Saya sudah mencoba melakukan perintah di atas, pada saat :
$sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
Kemudian muncul settingan yang saya kemudian masukkan seperti info
graphic card dll (vesa), resolusi 640 x 480, dll.

Dan hasil akhir tetap sama alias gambar balok warna/i masih muncul.
Tidak kurang akal, saya pun coba Live DVD Opensuse 10.2 Dari sini saya
tahu bahwa deteksi di hardware bahwa komputer teman saya : PC IBM
NetVista A30 lalu graphic card : VESA dan resolusi langsung diset 640
x 480.Koq kecil sekali yah? Padahal udah Pentium 4 - 2,3 GHz. Lalu
saat instalasi muncul grafis dll juga menu bar. Tapi di akhir
installasi, reboot dan akan masuk ke GUI. Intinya adalah xserver tidak
cocok ada beberapa string yang nga dikenal. Lalu mesti bagaimana nih
ya? Apa perlu download xserver type baru padahal yg sedang saya pakai
adalah keluaran November 2006.

boot aja, pake live cd nya ubuntu

Memory 256 sebenarnya cukup untuk feisty. dengan pernyataan vendor ada
opsi OS (LInux/WinXP) mustinya dah disesain linux friendly.

VESA bukan vga card, tapi video driver yg multi-card, maksudnya banyak
cocok dengan card apapun.

coba posting hasil lspci untuk tahu jenis video card anda

Oh sori mas, ternyata yang nga ada respon alias sesudah diketik
adalah sesusdah gdm.stop
Sedangkan pas set resolusi memang ada beberapa konfigurasi mulai
dari netapin resolusi 640 x 480, 1240 x 768, dll

Bener mas saya juga sudah cari ke mbah guugle, ternyata spec Netvista
A30 cukup banyak. Saya sendiri tahunya kalo memang P4 2,3 GHz. Lalu
iseng2 saya cek video-vesa ternyata ketemu di

Kalo seandainya kompatibel pasti nga akan muncul binary source nya
untuk kita copy dan compile lagi kan? Berarti vesa termasuk restricted
driver di ubuntu feisty y? Kira2 gitu bukan om sabri?

Akhirnya baru sempat posting hasil lspci, karna temen nga ada terus
keluar (nga bisa ditemuin), jadinya akhirnya CPU diboyong dirumah buat
