Dear developers,

We try to display some stacks on Icy with the 3D VTK view. But when we press the button 3D VTK on the canvas. Icy crashed witch this error on the terminal :

_NSJVMLoadLibrary: NSAddLibrary failed for /libjawt.dylib

JavaVM FATAL: lookup of function JAWT_GetAWT failed. Exit

We saw on the forum that there is a way for the retina screen to display the 3D VTK. Open icy with the version 6 of java. But on the macbook there are some freezes, the memory doesn't want to upgrade (to 6 MB for example) and our plugin (in development) use functionalities of the 7th version of java and can't be open on the version 6.

Is it the only way to do or there is another way ?

Best regards ,

Guillaume De Brito.

Dear Guillaume,

This error happen ony with later java 7 and java 8 on OSX as they removed the old awt native library and unfortunately VTK rely on it. Indeed a solution is to revert to java 6 but if you need some java 7 methods that is not a solution for you. We really want to find a workaround for this problem (as including the libjawt.dylib in Icy) but in the meantime you can try to just revert to java 7 unfortunately depending the java 7 version installed you may experience the same issue :-/
You can find the method to revert to java 6 on OSX here: http://icy.bioimageanalysis.org/faq#33
If you only remove java 8 then you will force the use of java 7.
Hope that helps !

Thanks for your fast reply !

We've already test with java 1.7 but we get the same result as the version 8. Only the version 6 works for us.
It's not a big problem for us we will use Windows to continue the development.

But if you succeed to use VTK 3D on a MacBook Pro retina with the version 7. Don't hesitate to tell us !

Sorry for not having any better solution currently. Of course if we find a solution for that we will tell you !

Best,
