Hi folks,
I just get a bug when saving a sequence. When I clic on "Save as", the dialog box gives me the name of my sequence by default, but as soon as I change the hierarchy to save my picture in another folder, the sequence name disappears and is replaced by the path. Of course I can retype the name. But since you did half of the work by placing the previous name and adding action name (like crop, channel...) which is very usefull, I wondered it it would be possible to keep that suggested name inside the box even when changing folder. Ideally, it would be great if the name was kept with the cursor at the end of the name, so that it would be quick to add a suffix?
Thanks a lot.
Lydia

Hi Lydia,

We can probably enhance that but that is more tricker that it seems: when you click the first time on a folder the name is replaced by the folder name as you can actually choose to save you sequence to a folder in different files... so restoring the default file name after you changed the directory can be confusing, specially if you manually modified the filename right before changing the folder.
Anyway i understand your point and try to make some improvements on that. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Actually i think i was a bit too optimist, it seems we cannot change internal behavior of these FileDialog stuff. A solution could be to use the system dialog instead (the one you have on OSX or Windows depending your OS) but that would be an option as we want to keep consistence look and feel by default.

Cheers,

I would add that using the system dialog would be actually very user friendly so probably better for  users comfort ! So it would be nicer at the end since it would adapt to user habits transparently. Because actually, I agree that the dialog are consistent in color and display but I would confess that this dialog box is a bit frustrating in comparison with the preview and design of Mac or windows OS actual ones. To me, it gives an old-school style to Icy, which is a little bit in contrast with its fancy plugins and protocols.
So I would deeply encourage this transition to system dialog ! ;o)
cheers,
Lydia.

Just discovered that some old version of Icy preserved the filename even after changing folder (Vannary told me about it).
I realized it comes from the fact you can now directly choose a folder to save an image (if you want to save it in separated files) and you are not restricted to a single file. I think that reversing this feature back is better as conserving the filename is really important imo and selecting a file instead of a directory is not a big deal after all.
Still i keep in mind the possibility of adding the system dialog as well don't worry ;)

Hi Stephane,

FWIW, ImageJ gives the user a choice, via the "Use JFileChooser to open/save" option of Edit > Options > Input/Output... dialog. On OS X the JFileChooser is really a step down from the system dialog, but on some versions of other OSes, the JFileChooser is nicer in some ways. So in general it is tough to say one is simply superior to the other.

Curtis
