I would like to read a quicktime movie but each time I try to import the file, either using the video importer plugin (v 1.0.0.0) or Xuggler Video Importer (v 1.0.2.0), it crashes Icy (version 1.6.11). The next time I load Icy, it tells me that Icy is still running in the background.

The data file occupies 400 Mb on disk (filename is: 1_IMG_1983.MOV) and it reads correctly using Windows Media player, or VLC or other programs - which means the file is not faulty. Icy is installed on a Windows 10 Pro computer, running under the 64 bits version of Java SE.

Any cue about why this happens? Do you know any reliable Mov -> Avi converter?

Hello Fred,

Both Video importer plugin rely on Xuggler library which is, unfortunately, not very stable or not anymore maintained :-/
I also have some video here making it crashes but hopefully it does happen rarely.
Do you think you can upload the video somewhere so i can test it and see if we can somehow make Xuggler to open it with specific settings ? Thanks.
As for a video converter, you may try FFMpeg : https://www.ffmpeg.org/

Thank you Stephane.

Finally, I have found a program that did the job - it is called "Prism converter" and it is available on a website called NCH. You'll find it here: http://www.nchsoftware.com/

The downside of it: a 400 Mb Mov file translates into an 11 Gb Avi (uncompressed) file.

Hi Fred,

Thanks i receive the link to download the file ! As soon the download is completed i will do some tests.
The software you used probably produced a RAW video file (no compression) which explain the huge size of the resulting file.
Anyway Icy has to unpack it as well to load it in memory so it won't change the required memory on Icy, it just uses more disc storage.

Best,

- Stephane
